User Interfaces

CanvasXpress offers the user a variety of ways to customize the visualizations through simple yet powerfull user interfaces.


Context Menus

(Right-Mouse Click)

Designed to navigate through the many customizable parameters with the use of the mouse. The menus can be dragged to reposition, which is useful when there is a limited landscape for the visualization. The menus can also be added to the top toolbar for easy access.

Reposition Menus

  1. Right click to open menus
  2. Grab menus by left click
  3. Drag and reposition

  1. Mouse over top toolbar to show menus
  2. Mouse over and left click on menu item to remove
  3. Right click to unpin from toolbar

Configurator

(Double Left-Mouse Click)

Designed to search for a particular customizable parameter with a filter as you type mechanism.


A selection box is shown displaying the category for the parameter followed by its name. The description of the parameter is shown as well as other related parameters if appropriate. The current value is show along to a link that open a custom widget to modify the parameter. A right-mouse click in a place different than the configurator will hide it as well as a right-mouse click in the close icon in the toolbar of the configurator. If the magnifier glass icon in the toolbar of the configurator is clicked, the categories for the parameters will show and once one category is selected, the full list of parameters.

You can toggle back to the search function by clicking again in the magnifier glass icon.

Data Explorer

(Start from toolbar)

Click in the second icon from the left in the toolbar of the canvas which will show as you mouse over the top left.


Designed to configure the visualization by drag'n drop but it only offers a limited number of customizations. The data explorer has three sections, the top one are either clickable icons to change parameters or dropable icons that accept inputs from the bottom two sections. The middle section contain the variables and their metadata (if availble) and the bottom section contains the samples and their metadata (if available).
